Boston, Mass.—On March 21, 2009, the Phi Eta chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon, initiated its Phi Beta New Member Class. The Phi Beta class consists of seven girls who were given bids earlier this spring.

Delta Phi Epsilon- Phi Eta Chapter Announces 40th Anniversary

Boston, Mass.—On March 30, 2009, the Phi Eta chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon, will celebrate its 40th Anniversary as the first national sorority founded on Northeastern University's Campus.

“We are so excited to welcome back our alumnae and celebrate this incredible event. So many women have contributed to our success over the years and having the opportunity to acknowledge their accomplishments is remarkable,” said Libby Werner, Phi Eta Chapter President of Delta Phi Epsilon.

Delta Phi Epsilon began on Northeastern's campus as a local sorority of twenty women known as Lambda Phi Delta. Lambda Phi Delta was founded to symbolize the ideals of sister unity, scholarship, school spirit, freedom, maturity of thought and community enrichment. Lambda Phi Delta decided to find a national sorority that embodied the same ideals that they themselves adhered to. They found Delta Phi Epsilon International Sorority. On October 11, 1968, fourteen women were inducted as the Phi Eta Pledge Chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon and were initiated on January 19, 1969. On March 30, 1969 the Phi Eta Chapter was charted as part of the Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority.

With over 70 active sisters, Delta Phi Epsilon is currently the oldest sorority chartered at Northeastern University, and the first chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon in Boston. The chapter is recognized on Northeastern’s campus for holding numerous events and fundraisers, as well as participating in activities held by other student organizations. Annual events include the Promise Auction, Big Man on Campus, 30 Hour Fast, and Take Back the Night. The sisters of Delta Phi Epsilon are committed to serving their local community as well as National philanthropies: Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders, and Delta Phi Epsilon Education Foundation.

The Phi Eta Chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon will be celebrating their 40th Anniversary in a weekend of events beginning on March 20. Alumnae and active sisters are invited to attend the festivities which will include a celebration at Top of the Hub in the Prudential Center, as well as a 40th Anniversary dinner and Phi Beta New Member Class initiation ceremony at Vlora Restaurant.
